Desk Report:
Naogaon Government College Principal Professor Shamsul Haque has been accused of sending objectionable messages to female students. Recently, various screenshots related to this have been circulated on social media. This Sunday morning, agitating students hung a banner with these screenshots printed on it at the main gate of the college.
In the screenshots printed on the banner, Principal Shamsul Haque is seen commenting on the personal beauty of female students and demanding that they be seen in various outfits, including removing the veil.
In one of the screenshots on the banner hung at the college gate, Principal Shamsul Haque is seen praising the beauty of his female student. At one stage of the praise, Shamsul Haque wrote to the female student, ‘Do you have more beautiful pictures?’ In response, the female student said, ‘Not anymore, sir. I am not beautiful. Whatever I think.’ Then Shamsul Haque wrote, ‘Yes, yes, without the veil.’ In response, the student said, ‘No sir, sorry sir.’ Immediately, Shamsul Haque said, ‘I saw it in college.’ In response, the student said, ‘No sir. Sorry. No sir. I apologize.’ Then Shamsul Haque said, ‘Okay, I will see you later. Be very, very, very good. Bye.’
A victim student said, ‘Two years ago, when I was studying at Naogaon BMC Women’s College, Sir used to join Facebook and make obscene comments. One day, when he asked for a picture without the veil, I blocked him.’ When asked why he had been silent for so long, the student said, ‘I also protested after seeing screenshots of some other students going viral on Facebook. Even as a principal, he has done such injustice to many students.’ Another student said, ‘Whenever he met Sir, he would look at her from head to toe and praise her beauty, which was indecent.’ A guardian said, if a teacher’s mentality is so dirty, how can he be in charge of the principal!
Meanwhile, a human chain and protest rally were held in front of the college gate this afternoon to protest irregularities and corruption in the college, the principal’s offensive conversations with the students, and the beating of the July fighter. The hour-long program was held under the banner of the college students and the July fighter parliament, the injured and martyred families.
Arman Hossain, a representative of the anti-discrimination student movement, said, ‘How can he, as a principal, make ugly comments to the students and ask for pictures without a headscarf? There are no dormitories and canteens for students in the college, there is no learning environment. Students are not safe. Therefore, I demand punishment for the principal.’
District Samajtantrik Chhatra Front President Mizanur Rahman said, “In the name of college development, additional fees are being charged from students. Principal Mastan has kept the army in place. Students cannot protest out of fear. There has been no visible development.”
Shaheed Fahmin’s mother Kazi Lulun, college branch Chhatra Dal convener Junayed Hossain and others also spoke at the rally. In addition to students from Naogaon College, students from various schools and colleges participated in the program.
When asked about the allegations, Principal Professor Shamsul Haque said, “I do not want to comment on the screenshot. I never consider a few students as opponents. I want to see those who are agitating for my cause as students.”
Earlier, Principal Shamsul Haque claimed on his personal Facebook ID last Friday night that his Facebook account had been hacked and he did not know who was running it, and requested everyone not to respond to any messages.
